Bodywork guide

Dent Repair or Panel Replacement?

Damage depth, access, paint condition and panel structure determine the sensible body-repair route.

This guide is general information. Stop driving and seek appropriate assistance if the vehicle is unsafe, seriously overheating, losing braking or steering control, or showing another urgent warning.

Not every dent needs a new panel

Shallow damage with suitable access and intact paint may be repairable without full replacement. Sharper creases, stretched metal or damage across a strong body line can require more extensive work.

Paint condition changes the plan

Cracked paint, exposed primer and corrosion need surface preparation and refinishing even if the metal shape can be restored.

  • Photograph the damage in daylight
  • Include the full panel and a closer view
  • Mention doors or lights that no longer align
  • Report any warning lights after an impact

Hidden fixings and supports

Bumpers and exterior panels can hide broken brackets, absorbers, sensors or supporting structures. An external photograph may not reveal the complete repair scope.

Assessment supports an accurate quote

Clear photographs can begin the conversation, but inspection may still be needed to confirm access, material, paint blending and connected damage.
