Define the engine complaint first
Noise, temperature and running changes
Engine work covers different decisions: tracing an oil leak, investigating rough running, planning timing components or assessing serious internal damage. For a useful quotation, say which change you noticed first and whether it followed a service, loss of coolant or dashboard warning. A request for an entire replacement engine needs stronger evidence than a general description that the car runs badly.
Choose an assessment rather than a guessed assembly
What can alter the repair route
Compression, lubrication, cooling, fuelling and electrical findings may lead to different repair plans. Agree what the first assessment is intended to establish and what authorisation is needed before dismantling. Any replacement proposal should identify the engine code and the condition of supporting parts; an apparently cheaper unit may require additional transfer work.
